5 Signs You Should Replace Your Dentures

Dentures

We live in a world when you no longer need to settle with missing teeth. You have a variety of different tooth replacement options out there, like dentures. Dentures can be lifechanging for those who are missing most of or all of their teeth. This popular tooth replacement option has come a long way throughout the years, but they don’t last forever. Here are some signs that you may need to have your dentures replaced soon.

Your Dentures Are Loose

Dentures should not be moving around or falling out of your mouth. If this is occurring, it probably means that they aren’t fitting as well as they should. They should be staying in place when you chew and speak. If you notice that your dentures have started to become loose, this means that they aren’t as snug to the gums as they should be. You can use over-the-counter denture adhesives to help, but this isn’t a permanent solution. You should see your dentist in order to have them looked at.

Speaking Is Difficult

It can be more challenging for you to speak if your dentures aren’t fitting properly. If you find that you have been slurring your words or mumbling more often than usually, the problem could be your false teeth. Talk to your dentist so they can be adjusted or replaced.

Your Dentures Are Uncomfortable

It takes a little bit of time to get used to wearing your dentures, but they shouldn’t be causing you pain or discomfort. If they are, this could be a sign that they are damaged or ill-fitting. If you develop sores or lesions in your mouth or notice changes in your gum health, you should schedule an urgent appointment with your dentist.

Your Dentures Are Damaged

Even though dentures are very strong, they aren’t indestructible. If you notice cracks, chips, loose teeth, or missing teeth, you should contact your dentist. You could have accidently damaged them, or they could just be getting old. Your dentist should take a look to determine if you need a new set or if they can be repaired.

Your Dentures Are Discolored

You can avoid staining with proper care, but discoloration can still develop over time. If this is something that bothers you, this is a valid reason to want to have them replaced. Express any concerns that you have with your dentist.

If you are struggling with any other the issues above, give your dentist a call so they can help. You shouldn’t settle for a smile that makes you feel anything other than comfortable and confident!
