Dentures are highly customized to fit inside your mouth exactly and made to replace both individual teeth on opposite sides of the mouth and the entire arch if necessary. Whether you need teeth replaced in your top arch, bottom arch, or both, there’s an option for you.
Full dentures are designed to replace a full arch of teeth and fabricated with your mouth’s exact specifications in mind. This is largely because the denture relies on the natural suction of your gums and the shape of your mouth to stay in place, at least in the long-term. The denture itself consists of a gum-colored, acrylic base that houses a series of ceramic crowns. Depending on the current condition of your oral health, we may need to extract existing teeth.
Partial dentures are only designed to fill gaps throughout the mouth. Not only are they shaped similar to a puzzle piece, but they use metal hooks that wrap around existing teeth to stay in place. With that said, they make use of the same acrylic and ceramic materials to blend in with existing gum tissue and teeth, albeit they are attached to a metal base.
Instead of relying on neighboring teeth or natural suction to keep denture secure, they can be attached directly to dental implants that are placed ahead of time. This is done with typically four to six dental implants, ensuring the restoration can be reliably stable for decades to come. Keep in mind that opting for this solution will extend the length of your tooth replacement several more months. However, most patients note it’s worth it thanks to the many benefits dental implants provide.
If one thing is for sure, dentures have come a very long way since their initial conception. Not only do they look more natural than ever, but they are designed to last significantly longer. You can expect many benefits from your future tooth replacement, including the following:
